Qualifications

The Mares Family Education Foundation Scholarship is a $1,000 a year scholarship available to graduating seniors from Greendale High School in Greendale, Wisconsin, St. Catherine's High School in Racine, Wisconsin, and St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin, Illinois. Recipients must be enrolled at either a two-year or four-year educational institution for the following academic year.

There are no GPA or standardized test score requirements. However, students who are members of the National Honor Society or class valedictorians will not be considered. Our scholarship is meant to help students whose academic record might be average, but whose commitment to extracurricular activities, friends, family, and their community make them anything but.

To apply, students should visit the Applications page and complete the form that tells us about themselves and their plans for the future. There is no length requirement for the essay, but students may want to include any or all of the following:

(i) what types of activities, coursework, etc., they participated in or enjoyed in high school,

(ii) what educational institution they plan to attend and why,

(iii) what they plan to study and do after high school,

(iv) what career they plan to pursue and why,

(v) any personal life challenges they may have experienced,

(vi) any financial need they may have, and

(vii) anything else that helps us understand who they are, where they're going, and how our scholarship will help them get there.

The deadline to apply is April 13, 2024.

All scholarships are paid directly to each student's educational institution.
